The photo above is the view from my home office. York Avenue, New York, New York. The first building is the City & Suburban Homes which, to my benefit but certainly without my support, have been "Landmarked" (as they say). So they can never be taken down or replaced. Even if you accept (which I don't) that landmarking is a proper thing for a state to do -- which I don't -- it's hard to see why these qualify. I assume the neighborhood simply had too much political pull. That said, the building's old-style storefront on York Avenue are what make he neighborhood livable.
